The Tigers play in the American League Central. One of the AL's eight charter clubs, they were founded in Detroit in the minor Western League in 1894 and are the oldest AL team still in its original city under its original name.

Background
From the mid-1890s the team played at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull Avenues for 104 seasons, in Bennett Park, then Navin Field (1912), renamed Briggs Stadium and later Tiger Stadium. Comerica Park downtown has been home since 2000. In 1901 they became the first big-league club with a mascot on their caps.
