Menos Grande

Mindless black conglomerate giants born from a hollow feeding frenzy.

A Menos Grande (also called Gillian) is the first stage of the Menos classification within the Bleach universe. These mindless black conglomerate giants result from numerous hollows merging during a cannibalistic feeding frenzy. Regarded as foot soldiers by Soul Reapers, they possess the unique ability to use Cero, a powerful blast of spirit energy depicted as a sphere or beam of colored light. Despite their immense size and power, they generally lack the individuality required for higher evolution into Adjuchas or Vasto Lorde forms.

Lore & Background

In Hueco Mundo, the hierarchy of hollows is defined by their ability to consume souls and evolve. A Menos Grande, specifically a Gillian, represents the lowest tier of the Great Hollows. They are formed when numerous hollows engage in a cannibalistic feeding frenzy that merges them into massive entities. While they serve as standard foot soldiers, a rare Gillian may develop a personality from one of its component hollows. This emergence of self causes it to shrink and evolve into an animalistic Adjuchas. To prevent regressing back to a Gillian, an Adjuchas is normally compelled to feed on other hollows. However, if an Adjuchas loses a chunk of itself to another Adjuchas, it can permanently remain in that form. The ultimate goal for many is to become the semi-humanoid Vasto Lorde, though their numbers are very few and they pose an existential threat to Soul Society.

Reader's Guide

All Menos, including Gillians and Adjuchas, are capable of using Cero, which is described as a powerful blast of spirit energy. While the first two stages (Gillian and Adjuchas) demand the involvement of stronger Soul Reaper officers to dispatch them, Vasto Lordes represent an existential threat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Menos Grande?

It is a large class of Hollows formed when many smaller spirits merge in a cannibalistic frenzy. These giants serve as the primary foot soldiers for the forces within Hueco Mundo.

How are these creatures created?

Weaker Hollows consume one another until their remains combine into a single black conglomerate body. This fusion process grants them immense power but removes their individual identities.

Are Gillians the only type of Menos Grande?

Gillians represent the lowest and most common rank, known for being completely mindless and lacking individuality. Higher tiers exist within this classification that eventually develop more complex personalities.
