Tapiolan Honka originated as the sports club Tapion Honka in 1957. In 1975, the senior men's basketball section separated from the rest of the club and took the name Tapiolan Honka. The following year, in 1976, Tapiolan Honka merged with Honka Playboys to form Playhonka, and the men's senior first team was known as Playhonka from then on. Tapiolan Honka continued as a feeder team and oversaw the club's youth sections. Playhonka later became Espoon Honka in 1985, which was dissolved in 2011. The senior men's team was then reestablished under the original name Tapiolan Honka, retaining the club's history. The team was promoted to the Korisliiga from the second-tier I division A in 2024.
