HBA-Märsky is part of the Helsinki Basketball Academy (HBA), a joint program of the Finnish Basketball Association and two Helsinki-based schools: Mäkelänrinne Upper Secondary Sports School (nicknamed Märsky) and Pohjois-Haagan yhteiskoulu (PHYK). The HBA program was created in 2011 with strong influence by Henrik Dettmann and started in 2012. Its aim is to develop young Finnish talented basketball players aged 13–19 to an international level for Finnish national teams by providing year-round professional coaching and education.

The club's men's team competes in the Finnish second-tier Koripallon I-divisioona, while its women's team plays in the top-tier Naisten Korisliiga. In 2022, a new training center was opened in Pirkkola Sports Park, Pirkkola, Helsinki, located near the PHYK school of Pohjois-Haaga. The club's home arena remains at URHEA Campus in Mäkelänrinne, which also serves as the National Olympic Training Center.
