Tampereen Pyrintö (basketball)

Tampereen Pyrintö, often shortened to Pyrintö, is a Finnish basketball club based in Tampere. It operates as the basketball division of a larger multi-sport club. Both the men’s and women’s teams compete in Korisliiga, Finland’s top basketball league. Since 2010, Pyrintö has also taken part in international competitions such as the EuroChallenge and the Baltic Basketball League.
The men’s team has won the Korisliiga championship three times—in 2010, 2011, and 2014—and finished as runners-up in 1958, 1980, 1981, 2001, and 2016, with a third-place finish in 2009. In the Finnish Basketball Cup, they have been champions twice (1969 and 2013) and runners-up five times (2000, 2009, 2011, 2019, 2021). Their best result in the Baltic Basketball League was fourth place in 2014.
All retired jersey numbers hang in the rafters of the home arena, but current players may still use them, except for number 32, which belonged to Williams. Notable players are those who have played at least one season for the club, set a club record or won an individual award while there, played an official international match for their national team, or achieved significant success during their time with the club or elsewhere.
The women’s team also plays in the Women’s Korisliiga and has won eight Finnish league titles and one Finnish Cup. The club has retired the jersey of Seija Leino for the women’s team. Former coaches include Pieti Poikola.
