Background
The Promise begins immediately after the final episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, then jumps forward one year. The story follows Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko as they confront the aftermath of the Hundred Year War, particularly the fate of Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom. The Harmony Restoration Movement aims to relocate colonists, but the colony of Yu Dao reveals deep integration between Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom citizens, including mixed-race families and Earthbenders who identify as Fire Nation citizens. Zuko withdraws support for the movement after visiting Yu Dao, leading to conflict with Earth King Kuei and his army.
