Warriors Orochi 3

Warriors Orochi 3, known in Japan as Musō Orochi 2, is a hack and slash game from 2011 developed by Tecmo Koei and Omega Force. Released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it marks the fourth entry in the Warriors Orochi crossover series, which blends characters from Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. It directly follows Warriors Orochi 2. The game launched in Japan in 2011, with European and North American releases following in 2012 for the same platforms.

Several ports exist. Musou Orochi 2 Special came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2012, exclusively in Japan. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper launched as a Wii U launch title in Japan, North America, and Europe. An updated version, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, hit the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in Japan in 2013, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports arriving in 2014; all four versions reached North America and Europe that same year. A Nintendo Switch port released only in Japan in 2017. A definitive edition, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition, launched worldwide for Windows via Steam in July 2022. Western releases of the game include an English dub option alongside the original Japanese voice acting.

Gameplay borrows heavily from Dynasty Warriors 7 (specifically Dynasty Warriors Next) and Samurai Warriors 3, with characters playing similarly to their source games but with unifying changes. Dynasty Warriors characters carry only one weapon—their EX weapon from that series—and cannot swap. Those whose EX weapons changed in Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires keep their older EX weapons in Ultimate. They also have just one Musou attack, retaining their ground version if they had both ground and aerial attacks in Dynasty Warriors 7, or one of two ground attacks. Since movesets in Dynasty Warriors 7 are tied to weapons rather than characters, characters sharing a weapon get altered charge attacks to stand apart. Samurai Warriors characters use their Ultimate Musou attack when a True Musou would be available, compensating for the missing Spirit Gauge, and gain new Switch attacks for combos. Characters from neither series have Musou attacks based on origin: non-Japanese characters (like Nemea) use Dynasty Warriors-style EX attacks, while Japanese-origin characters (like Kaguya) have longer standard attack chains like Samurai Warriors characters.
