Warriors Orochi 2
Sequel to Warriors Orochi, featuring 92 characters and new modes.
Warriors Orochi 2 (released in Japan as *Musō Orochi: Maō Sairin*) is a 2008 action game from Koei and Omega Force, originally for the PlayStation 2. It follows up the crossover *Warriors Orochi*, which mashed together characters from the *Dynasty Warriors* and *Samurai Warriors* series. The game hit North America and Europe in September 2008, with a Japanese Xbox 360 version arriving on September 4, and a PlayStation Portable edition later released in Japan, North America, and Europe.
The story picks up right after Orochi’s defeat in the first game. The merged world of China’s Three Kingdoms era and Japan’s Warring States period enjoys a brief peace, but it doesn’t hold. Former officers from Orochi’s army splinter off into their own factions, while other unaffiliated warriors also start raising armies. Behind it all, a scheme brews to bring back the ultimate evil: Orochi himself.
This tale is a direct sequel to the first game, picking up after Orochi's defeat. The sorceress Da Ji, now on the run, schemes to revive her master, while new threats and alliances emerge across the chaotic world. A group of mystics—led by Taigong Wang, Fu Xi, and Nu Wa—works to stop the resurgence of evil. Meanwhile, Sakon Shima, on his way to visit Shingen Takeda, sees Dong Zhuo attacking the Yellow Turbans under Zhang Jiao. Realizing the danger from power-hungry warlords, Sakon gathers forces by recruiting the three daimyōs Shingen Takeda, Nobunaga Oda, and Kenshin Uesugi. He also meets Fu Xi, who warns him of the Orochi Army’s plans. Elsewhere, Liu Bei worries about enemies fighting for control after Orochi’s fall. He forms an alliance with Ieyasu Tokugawa, Yoshimoto Imagawa, and Sun Shang Xiang to protect Shu, and is soon joined by the mystic Taigong Wang, who wants to capture the escaped Da Ji. Cao Cao rebuilds his army as the Orochi forces grow despite their master’s death. He gets help from Nu Wa, though she refuses to discuss Da Ji or the monkey king Sun Wukong, who now leads a “circus” army. Both Cao Cao and Nu Wa try to uncover the secrets behind Da Ji and Sun Wukong. In Wu, Sun Jian keeps peace and doesn’t raise an army, but sends spies like Ranmaru Mori, who spots Yoshitsune Minamoto battling Lu Bu. After rescuing him, Wu learns Yoshitsune is hunting his nemesis Kiyomori Taira, who has a secret plan.
