One Finger Death Punch
Two-button beat 'em up with campaign and survival modes.
One Finger Death Punch is a beat 'em up game from Canadian indie developer Silver Dollar Games. It first launched on Xbox 360 on June 24, 2013, then on Microsoft Windows on March 3, 2014, with Android and iOS ports following in 2015. The game offers two main modes: a campaign where players progress through a map by clearing levels, and a survival mode where the goal is to last as long as possible.
In gameplay, players use only the left and right mouse buttons to attack enemies approaching from the corresponding side. There are three difficulty settings—Student, Master, and Grandmaster—which affect enemy count, round speed, and the player's health. The campaign features varied rounds, including Light Sword and Nunchaku stages where enemies are one-hit kills but increase in speed and number, and boss battles where a single enemy with a health bar requires a specific button sequence (shown by blue and red bars) to defeat; missing a press lets the boss hit the player.
Survival mode has several versions. Plain survival is an endless mob round with occasional unique sections like Light Sword rounds. Blind survival removes the indicator bar under enemies and the range prompt, leaving only enemy color and special combination prompts. A secret third survival mode merges plain survival with Silver Dollar Games' *No Luca No*, where a cat named Luca appears from the sides to block the view, and the player must push it away with the mouse cursor. Unlocking the second and third survival modes requires at least 500 kills in a single round of the previous mode.
Reception was positive, with critics praising the simple controls, large amount of content, and visual style, though they noted the game's repetitive nature. Erwan Lafleuriel from Gameblog described it as "Easy to learn, but challenging enough to pass many levels with honours." Matt Porter of Hooked Gamers remarked that people "could even play One Finger Death Punch with one finger," adding that "the depth behind the simplistic control scheme is impressive up to a point, until it all starts to get a bit samey."
A sequel, *One Finger Death Punch 2*, was announced on the Silver Dollar Games Facebook page on March 3, 2018, with the message "coming when it's ready." It was released on April 15, 2019, and on September 30, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
