NAA bought the data from Curtiss for £56,000, and the commission approved the final designs on May 4, 1940, ordering 320 aircraft on May 29. The British stipulated four .303 machine guns, a unit cost under $40,000, and delivery of the first production aircraft by January 1941. The contract was finalized on April 24.
