The Empire
The oldest and largest human nation of the Old World.
The Empire of Man, usually just called the Empire, is the largest and oldest human civilisation in the Old World of Warhammer Fantasy, modelled on the Holy Roman Empire. It was founded thousands of years ago when the warrior-king Sigmar Heldenhammer united several bronze-age tribes and allied with the Dwarfs against greater threats.
Lore & Background
Sigmar has since become the Empire's main god, standing for justice and strength, alongside others such as Ulric, god of wolves, winter and battle, and Shallya, goddess of mercy and healing. The country is built around the rivers Reik, Talabec, Stir and Aver, and its chief cities include Altdorf, the current capital, Middenheim, Nuln, Talabheim and Averheim. However different its provinces are, its people are held together by steel, gunpowder and faith in Sigmar, and by a shared language, Reikspiel.
