Lore & Background
An early league title first took Valencia into the European Cup. Its best Champions League era began after 1998-99: the club reached its first final in 2000 and returned in 2001, when it lost to Bayern Munich on penalties after Mauricio Pellegrino's miss - a second final defeat in a row.
