Lore & Background
The final is often counted among the best the competition has produced, and captain Steven Gerrard was named UEFA's Footballer of the Year for his part in it and in the whole campaign. As it was Liverpool's fifth European Cup, they kept the trophy for good and received the UEFA Badge of Honour, and a new trophy was made for 2005–06. Liverpool then represented UEFA at the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship.
