Ned
The small antlered creature of the "Chlorine" music video.
Ned is a small, white alien-like creature with small antlers, black eyes and hairy bat-like ears that appears in the music video for "Chlorine" by Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph announced the character by name on Twitter before the video was released in January 2019.
Lore & Background
In the video Ned watches the duo clean and fill a dirty swimming pool, then dives in, and his antlers seem to grow in response. At the end Joseph sits with him in the empty pool and offers him a cup containing an unknown substance, which Ned refuses. The band has said that Ned represents the idea of creativity and of trying to take care of it and appease it. Antlered creatures of the same kind live in a cave in the video for "The Outside", where one of them gives its antlers to Joseph.
Reader's Guide
The character was created from mid-December 2018 using 3D visual effects and a physical stand-in mold. In 2019 the band opened a pop-up shop named Ned's Bayou in Columbus, Ohio, with the shop's name and merchandise based on the character. Ned is also held by a member of the audience in the video for "The Hype".
