Nills
One of the nine bishops of Dema.
Nills is one of the nine bishops who rule the fictional city of Dema, as described in the lore surrounding Twenty One Pilots' fifth studio album, Trench (2018). The nine bishops are Nico, Andre, Lisden, Keons, Reisdro, Sacarver, Nills, Vetomo, and Listo.
Lore & Background
Nills is one of the nine bishops who rule the city of Dema, a fictional location set within the continent of Trench. The chief bishop, Nico, was identified by lead singer Tyler Joseph as Blurryface, the personification of his insecurities from the band's previous album. The bishops are opposed by a group called the Banditos, who aim to liberate the people of Dema and adopt the color yellow (specifically 0xFCE300), which the bishops are unable to see, instead perceiving it as grey.
Did You Know?
- The city of Dema draws its name from dakhma, or 'Tower of Silence,' in Zoroastrianism, where dead bodies were disposed of by vultures.
- The narrative of Trench was expanded upon in the band's later albums Scaled and Icy (2021) and Clancy (2024), and concluded with Breach (2025).
