Scaled and Icy
The sixth studio album by Twenty One Pilots, released in 2021.
Scaled and Icy is the sixth studio album by Twenty One Pilots, released on May 21, 2021, through Fueled by Ramen and Elektra. Its title is a play on "scaled back and isolated", a phrase Tyler Joseph associated with music made during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is also an anagram of "Clancy is dead". Joseph wrote and largely produced the album in his home studio over a year-long period, while Josh Dun engineered the drum tracks remotely.

Lore & Background
The album is a departure from the conceptual narrative of Trench, and critics noted a return to the playful alt-pop sound of Vessel; Joseph called the record a "bit of a reaction to Trench". Its cover, designed by Brandon Rike, shows a scaled teal dragon breathing yellow fire over a pink background. The dragon is named Trash and appears in the album's music videos. On April 2, 2021, a progress bar appeared on dmaorg.info, the website the band uses to share background stories and lore. The music video for the fourth and final single, "The Outside", draws much of its plot from the lore of Trench.
Reader's Guide
The band supported the album with the Takeover Tour, which began on September 21, 2021, in Denver, Colorado, and with the Icy Tour of North America in 2022. Scaled and Icy won Top Rock Album at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
