1990 Tour de France
The stage-one break and LeMond's third Tour, won without a stage.
The 1990 Tour de France was the 77th edition, held from 30 June to 22 July over 3,403.8 km in 21 stages and a prologue. Greg LeMond repeated his 1989 victory ahead of Claudio Chiappucci and Erik Breukink, his third Tour win, achieved without winning a stage. Thierry Marie won the prologue at the Futuroscope park; on stage 1 a four-man escape gained more than ten minutes, putting Steve Bauer in yellow, then Ronan Pensec when Bauer faltered in the Alps, then Chiappucci after the mountain time trial to Villard-de-Lans. Chiappucci fought to keep his advantage over the defending champion but was overtaken in the final time trial on the penultimate stage. Olaf Ludwig won the points, Thierry Claveyrolat the mountains, Gilles Delion the young rider prize, Eduardo Chozas the super-combativity award and LeMond's team the team classification.
