1995 Tour de France
Induráin's fifth, in the Tour that lost Fabio Casartelli.
The 1995 Tour de France was the 82nd edition, held from 1 to 23 July, and brought Miguel Induráin his fifth and final victory. On the fifteenth stage the Italian Fabio Casartelli died after a crash on the Col de Portet d'Aspet. Laurent Jalabert won the points classification, Richard Virenque the mountains, Marco Pantani the young rider prize and ONCE the team classification. Lance Armstrong finished 36th, which became his best Tour result after everything from August 1998 onwards was stripped from him in 2012. Twenty-one teams of nine rode: fifteen named in May, five wildcards in June, a replacement for Le Groupement, which folded after its leader Luc Leblanc was injured, and an extra combined Telekom/ZG Mobili team.
