Blaviken is the town where Geralt of Rivia earned the name "the Butcher of Blaviken". In The Last Wish, Geralt rides into Blaviken on the eve of a festival with a monster carcass in tow and seeks out Caldemeyn, the town's alderman.
Lore & Background
The town wizard, Stregobor, claims that a supposedly cursed woman wants to assassinate him and asks for Geralt's protection; the woman, Renfri, has entered Blaviken with her band of mercenaries. On the morning of the festival Geralt realizes that Renfri will massacre the people of Blaviken to draw Stregobor out, finds her mercenaries in the marketplace and kills them. Afterwards Geralt is known as "the Butcher of Blaviken".
Reader's Guide
In the Netflix series, Geralt enters the town of Blaviken in 1231 after a battle with a kikimora and meets Renfri, a cursed princess-turned-bandit; he fights and fatally wounds her. Stregobor is the resident mage of the town, and Caldemeyn its young alderman.
