Kovir and Poviss

The neutral northern kingdom whose aid helps the North win its second war with Nilfgaard.

Kovir and Poviss is one of the Northern Kingdoms in The Witcher. In The Tower of the Swallow, Kovir is described as a neutral nation.

Lore & Background

Redania's spymaster, Sigismund Dijkstra, travels to Kovir seeking financing to rebuild Redania's army in anticipation of a Nilfgaardian invasion, and discovers that the magicians of the newly formed Lodge of Sorceresses have begun to establish Kovir as a nation sympathetic to magic, under their control. The aid he secures from Kovir, which allows him to obtain mercenaries and supplies for the Northern armies, is one of the key reasons why the North wins the second war against Nilfgaard.

Reader's Guide

In The Lady of the Lake, the Lodge plans for Ciri to become the mistress of Prince Tankred, the Kovirian heir. The Witcher IV introduces the Kovir region as a new playable region; it was only mentioned in the previous Witcher games and explored in the books.
