When Norman Reedus asked the writers whether Daryl could get a dog, the request was denied and Daryl got a new crossbow instead. In the spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Carol recovers his lost crossbow at an auto repair shop in Maine and later returns it to him.
