In The Sword of Truth, a Seeker of Truth is a kind of avenging warrior created by wizards long ago to force the truth into the open and lead people toward wiser lives. Each is given the Sword of Truth, but a Seeker must already be the right kind of person.

Background
In Wizard's First Rule, Zedd names Richard Cypher, a woods guide from Westland, the Seeker and gives him the sword. Over the series Richard learns his heritage while fighting those who would unleash evil on the world of the living, and refusing to give up his values he leads others to understand what it means to be free.
