The Third Kingdom, published on August 20, 2013, is the second novel in Terry Goodkind's Richard and Kahlan series. After an attack by the mysterious "half people" of the Dark Lands, Richard and Kahlan are abandoned by their friends, and Richard sets out to save them and meets the sinister Bishop Hannis Arc.

Background
The half people are soulless creatures, created by Emperor Sulachan, who kill and eat the living in an attempt to gain a soul. In the next novel, Severed Souls (2014), Richard must find a cure for the Hedge Maid's stain of death on himself and Kahlan, while Hannis Arc and Emperor Sulachan march on the heart of D'Hara. The series ends with Warheart (2015).
