Background

The sword works through perception: it cuts through anything its wielder sees as a threat, but nothing and no one the wielder considers innocent. It also amplifies anger, giving its wielder more strength, agility and conviction. In Chainfire the sword protects Richard's mind from the spell that erases everyone else's memory of Kahlan. The prequel The First Confessor tells of the sword's creation.
