Background

Their weapon is the Agiel, a leather rod on a gold chain powered by their bond to a master; it can inflict any harm its user wishes but usually hurts her too, since a Mord-Sith often carries the Agiel she was tortured with. Because of that bond, a Mord-Sith has no power without a master. The touch of a Confessor kills a Mord-Sith in a violent and painful death. Debt of Bones notes that they were once more widespread. Cara, one of the series' protagonists, is a Mord-Sith, and the main series ends with her marriage to General Meiffert. The Morazeth of Ildakar are a variation on them.
