Their objective was to reach the Source, described as the central Machine City mainframe computer. With the Keymaker's aid, Morpheus supported Neo in entering the door to the Source. This event occurred despite a sudden Sentinel attack that destroyed their ship, the Nebuchadnezzar, forcing the crew to be rescued by the hovercraft Mjolnir. Earlier, Morpheus had risked his life to help Neo escape the Matrix after taking the red pill, allowing the Nebuchadnezzar crew to eject Neo's body from the power plant and retrieve him from the cold sewers beneath the Earth's surface. Later, in The Matrix Resurrections, a new version of Morpheus is revealed as an amalgamation of memories created by a suppressed Neo within a modal, eventually assuming his identity to help free Neo again.
