Skeletron

Skeletron is a pre-Hardmode boss in Terraria.[1] The first victory over Skeletron unlocks every Dungeon area in the current world and enables the Clothier NPC to become a resident.[1][2]

Summoning

Skeletron is summoned by speaking to the Old Man at the Dungeon entrance at night and selecting the "Curse" option.[3] After Skeletron is defeated, the Old Man no longer appears, and Skeletron can be summoned again by killing the Clothier at night with the Clothier Voodoo Doll equipped.[3]

Behavior

Skeletron alternates between two attack phases: a phase where the head remains above while the hands slash, and a spinning phase where the head chases the player with reduced defense.[4] If dawn (4:30 AM) arrives before Skeletron is defeated, it enrages, gains 9,999 damage and defense, and acts like a faster Dungeon Guardian.[4] Skeletron appears as an enormous skull that floats, accompanied by two separate hands that can pass through blocks.[4] Only the head must be destroyed to win, even though each body part can be eliminated on its own.[4]

Expert Mode

In Expert Mode, Skeletron's head gains 25 defense for each hand alive, and the head shoots homing skulls once a hand is destroyed or head health drops below 75%.[5]

Red Hat variant

A variant called the Red Hat Skeletron can be summoned at night by sitting in Chippy's Couch with the Clothier Voodoo Doll equipped while the Clothier is nearby.[6] The Red Hat Skeletron has increased damage and reduced damage taken, can reflect projectiles while spinning, and spawns Red Hat Dark Casters during its spin phase.[6]

Aftermath

After Skeletron is beaten, the Golfer can offer Golf Cart Keys to a player whose golf score exceeds 1999, and the Merchant can sell Safes.[2]
