Skeletron Prime
In Hardmode, the mechanical boss Skeletron Prime presents a greater challenge than its predecessor Skeletron.[1] The boss comprises a head plus four limbs; only destroying the head is required to win the encounter.[1] Skeletron Prime has a maximum life of 28000 / 42000 / 53550 and a defense of 24 (48 while spinning, 9999 during day).[5] It drops 12 Gold coins from its Treasure Bag.[5]

Manual
A Mechanical Skull can be used to manually call Skeletron Prime between 7:30 PM and 4:30 AM.[2]
Random
A natural spawn is preceded by the message “The air is getting colder around you...”.[3]
Behavior
Every 10 seconds, Skeletron Prime enters a spinning phase for 6.67 seconds, during which its damage and defense double.[4] Skeletron Prime's limbs have unique attacks: Prime Cannon fires bombs, Prime Saw moves up and down, Prime Vice swipes and lunges, and Prime Laser shoots red Death Lasers.[4] Should Skeletron Prime survive until 4:30 AM, it becomes enraged, gaining 9,999 damage and defense and moving like a faster Dungeon Guardian.[4]
