Production
Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! was unveiled in March 2014, part of a wave of Warner Bros. reboots that also included The Tom and Jerry Show and Wabbit. Sam Register, who had been promoted to president of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series the previous month, served as supervising producer. Shaunt Nigoghossian directed the animation, while Richard Lee handled art direction. Each episode runs half an hour. As the twelfth series in the Scooby-Doo franchise, it was highlighted in a Comic-Con issue of TV Guide as being less dark than its predecessor, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Scooby-Doo speaks less, and Fred has outfitted the Mystery Machine with modern gadgets. The gang’s character models were redesigned, keeping their original outfits with minor adjustments; producer Zac Moncrief described the look as “simplistic, edgy” to fit the comedic tone, but insisted it was not campy or meta. This is the first Scooby-Doo TV series without Casey Kasem, who retired from voicing Shaggy during Mystery Incorporated due to health issues and died in June 2014. His passing left Frank Welker as the sole surviving original cast member still involved. It also marks the first series since A Pup Named Scooby-Doo where Velma is not voiced by Mindy Cohn, with Kate Micucci taking over the role.
Episodes
The show's first season began on Cartoon Network on October 5, 2015. After twenty of its twenty-six episodes aired, a long break started following the March 12, 2016 episode "Giant Problems." The season's last six episodes were broadcast on Boomerang in a late-night slot on June 20, 2017. An announcement on March 7, 2017 stated that the rest of the season would debut on the Boomerang streaming service, which happened on September 28, 2017. The season's final eleven episodes also appeared on the Boomerang TV channel, wrapping up on March 18, 2018.
