Flash animation series

Gotham Girls is among the few Flash-animated series produced by a mainstream cartoon publisher, featuring professional voice acting from the same performers as the television series. Its use of Flash and vector graphics allows the animation to appear undistorted and unpixellated at any resolution, though episodes do not show the Symbols outside the intended viewing area; for instance, in Season 1 Episode 1, Harley's body is drawn only for the dimensions of the viewing area while a light beam continues off screen. Each episode includes a mini-game or puzzle playable during download, as well as an interactive feature letting viewers help a character make a decision. The website also offered downloadable trailers, screensavers, desktop backgrounds, internet chat buddy icons, character biographies, and an online version of Othello (Reversi) featuring the Gotham Girls; the screensavers, desktop backgrounds, and chat buddy icon sites no longer work and redirect to the Warner Bros. website, as does the Gotham Girls website. The series lasted three seasons of ten episodes each, released month by month. The first two seasons were primarily comedic, while the third season attempted a more serious tone, linking directly to Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero. The storyline addressed issues such as corruption in the Gotham City Police Department, Poison Ivy's environmental crusade, and Commissioner Gordon's wavering faith in costumed superheroes. The series finale, "Cold Hands, Cold Heart," aired in 2002, wrapping up the mystery and ending the website; it was dedicated to the memory of Hilary J. Bader, who died of breast cancer on November 7, 2002. GothamGirls.com is no longer online, but the individual .swf files remained accessible until mid-2015.

Other media

In 2003, DC Comics released a five-issue miniseries called Gotham Girls, written by Paul Storrie. The story, set in the DC animated universe, focused on Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Batgirl, with each issue highlighting one of them. The plot centered on a vial of chemicals that the three villainesses battled over while evading Batgirl and Detective Montoya. A follow-up three-issue miniseries, Batman: Harley and Ivy, continued the adventures of Harley and Ivy. The series was collected in English as Harley Quinn and the Gotham Girls in 2012, and in French by Urban Comics in two editions.
