DC Super Hero Girls
A DC superhero universe aimed at younger audiences.
In 2015, Warner Bros. Animation launched a web series for Cartoon Network called DC Super Hero Girls, featuring DC Entertainment characters. Later, animator Lauren Faust—known for The Powerpuff Girls and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic—reimagined the concept. This led to a full rebrand and a television reboot that premiered on Cartoon Network in March 2019. The new show drew inspiration from Faust's 2012 DC Nation Short, Super Best Friends Forever, while keeping some themes from the original web series.

Publication history
DC Super Hero Girls first appeared in 2015 as an animated web series on YouTube. By 2016, the brand had grown to include a graphic novel series, more animated and digital content, toys, and clothing. Diane Nelson, who once led DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, predicted in 2016 that the property could exceed $1 billion in value. A new version of the series started in 2019 with a TV show, and that same year, the DC Zoom imprint picked up the graphic novel line. The DC Ink and DC Zoom imprints were created thanks to two things: the creative success of the post-New 52 DCYou program, which featured younger creators and a more modern style, and the financial success of DC Super Hero Girls. Dan DiDio, DC’s co-publisher from 2010 to 2020, noted that much of this push came from the company’s desire to reach young adult readers. He said DC was experimenting to see what a young adult comic from DC Comics would look like.
Other media
Random House released a set of text-only novels, all written by Lisa Yee, each centered on a different student’s life at Super Hero High. Target, a major American retailer, put out special editions of the Wonder Woman and Batgirl books that came with extra items like character profiles and posters. The DC Graphic Novels for Kids line later produced graphic novels based on the same series. A new graphic novel by Shea Fontana and Yancey Labat came out in 2025 to mark the series’ tenth anniversary. Between 2016 and 2018, Lego sold twelve sets under the DC Super Hero Girls brand. Instead of standard minifigures, these kits used the mini-doll style from Lego Friends, which was intended to appeal to a feminine audience.
