Soldier

The Midwestern patriot with a rocket launcher who never actually served.

The Soldier is one of the nine playable classes of Team Fortress 2, voiced by Rick May: a flag-waving patriot from the American Midwest who acts like a career military man though he never served in the armed forces. By default he carries a rocket launcher, a shotgun and a shovel.

Background

He is the second-slowest class and has the second-highest health after the Heavy. Firing a rocket at his own feet lets him rocket jump to new spots at a cost in health. After Rick May died in 2020, Valve added a tribute to his work as the Soldier: a version of Taps as the main menu theme and statues of the saluting Soldier on most official maps.
