Jango Fett is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. First appearing as the secondary antagonist of the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, he was played by Temuera Morrison. Regarded as the best mercenary in the galaxy of his era, Jango served as a Mandalorian bounty hunter and the genetic template for the Galactic Republic's clone army. In exchange for this service, he received an unmodified clone to raise as his son, Boba Fett. After his death at the hands of Jedi Master Mace Windu, Boba inherited his father's armor, equipment, and ship, Slave I, continuing the legacy as a successful bounty hunter.

Lore & Background

In early drafts of Attack of the Clones, Jango's first name was "J'mee." His final name references Sergio Corbucci's 1966 Spaghetti Western film Django, featuring a hyper-violent drifter played by Franco Nero. Visually, Jango wears a sleek armored suit largely based on Boba Fett's iconic outfit from the original trilogy, though his color scheme was changed to silver and blue to contrast with Boba's green, red, and orange. Uniquely, his armor includes thigh, shin, and spat plates but lacks the accessories and trophies common to other Mandalorians. George Lucas established that while Jango wears Mandalorian armor, he is not from their planet. In Legends continuity, specifically the comic Jango Fett: Open Seasons, flashbacks reveal he was adopted into the culture by a mentor named Jaster and hailed from Concord Dawn before fighting in the Mandalorian Civil Wars.
