Force lightning, also known as Sith lightning or dark lightning, was an offensive power that Force users could conjure through the dark side of the Force. It involved a discharge of electrical energy from the practitioner's hands and was capable of killing, maiming, inflicting severe pain, disfigurement, or even disintegration. The ability could also destroy physical objects such as starships, and sometimes the user's hand would emanate faint amounts of smoke after employing it. Luke Skywalker considered it to be the ultimate manifestation of the Force in a physical sense.
