Montgomery Scott
Scotty, the Enterprise's chief engineer, first played by James Doohan.
Montgomery "Scotty" Scott is the engineer of the starship Enterprise. James Doohan first played him in the original series, then in the animated series, ten films and the Next Generation episode "Relics". Simon Pegg took over the role in the 2009 reboot film and its two sequels, and Martin Quinn plays a young Scotty in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Lore & Background
Doohan was cast for the second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before", on the recommendation of its director James Goldstone. Gene Roddenberry at first wrote to Doohan that the show did not need an engineer, and the character stayed only because Doohan's agent stepped in.
Doohan tried several accents before settling on a Scottish one, reasoning that Scots make the best engineers. He also picked the first name Montgomery, which was his own middle name, in honour of his maternal grandfather.
