Pavel Chekov
The Enterprise's young Russian officer, played by Walter Koenig and Anton Yelchin.
Pavel Andreievich Chekov was played by Walter Koenig in the second and third seasons of the original Star Trek series and the first seven films, and by Anton Yelchin in the 2009 reboot film and its sequels Into Darkness and Beyond. Both actors were born to Russian parents, grew up in the United States and used Russian accents in the role.

Lore & Background
Gene Roddenberry wanted a younger cast member to appeal to teenage viewers. An NBC press release presented the character as a response to a Pravda article criticising the show for having no Russian characters, but the existence of that article is disputed; Roddenberry also acknowledged the popularity of The Monkees' Davy Jones, which Koenig always gave as the real reason.
