Lore & Background

The source establishes that Cuttlefish leads the Squidbeak Splatoon, a group dedicated to fighting the Octarians. The conflict he addresses dates back to a "century-old territorial conflict known as the Great Turf War." While Inklings typically focus on modern turf wars in Inkopolis Plaza, Cuttlefish's mission involves the deeper lore of the series: rescuing the Great Zapfish from the Octarians. He reveals that these enemies are a race of octopuses who have been at war with Inklings for generations. His role is strictly tied to this single-player narrative in Octo Valley, where he acts as the primary contact point for recruits seeking to understand the history behind the disappearance of Inkopolis's power source.

Reader's Guide

Players encounter Captain Cuttlefish at the start of the single-player campaign to receive their mission. He tasks them with rescuing the Great Zapfish from the Octarians within the levels of Octo Valley. To succeed, players must collect "Power Eggs" scattered across these levels to enhance their default ink weapon. The gameplay loop involves navigating through enemies and obstacles to reach the end of each stage, where an Octoweapon boss awaits. Clearing a boss unlocks blueprints that can be exchanged at an armory for additional weapon choices. Additionally, players should look for hidden "sunken scrolls" in every level to uncover lore regarding the Great Turf War.
