Inkling
The squid people of Splatoon.
Inklings are the evolved squids at the centre of the Splatoon series, set about 12,000 years in the future on an Earth where humans and nearly all mammals have died out. They can switch at will between a humanoid "kid" form, in which they fire ink from their weapons, and a squid form, in which they swim and hide in ink of their own colour.

Background
About a century before the first game, the Inklings won the year-long Great Turf War against the Octarians, pushed them into underground domes once used by humans, and founded the city of Inkopolis on the surface. They have their own fictional written and spoken language, in which almost all of the games' vocal music is sung. Developers first imagined the player characters as rabbits before switching to squid-human hybrids.
