Production
Kang Full, who rose to popularity with his romance webtoon Love Story in 2003, later explored the superhero genre with Timing and Moving. On January 6, 2020, Studio & New announced production of a Moving television series, with Kang writing the script himself—his first screen adaptation. Zo In-sung received an offer in September 2020. Disney+ announced Moving as its tentpole show for the pan-Asian market on October 13, 2021. In February 2021, the joint production agreement was cancelled and Park In-je replaced director Mo Wan-il due to differences between co-producers JTBC and Next Entertainment World. Casting was completed on August 23, 2021, and filming began on August 26, with about half completed by January 2022. A second team was led by director Park Yoon-seo. In November 2024, Kang Full had begun work on the second season script, with pre-production underway and a target release in 2026.
Reception
On Rotten Tomatoes, Moving scored a perfect 100% approval from nine critics, averaging 8.4 out of 10. Pierce Conran of the South China Morning Post awarded it five stars, praising how Kang Full adapted his own webcomic into a rich, character-driven narrative. Within a week of release, the series became Disney+’s most-streamed Korean original globally and on Hulu in the U.S. by hours watched. It also set a record for the biggest premiere week on Disney+ in South Korea. Carol Choi, Disney’s APAC executive vice president of original content strategy, said the response “exceeded our expectations.” Variety hailed it as “the next breakout hit from Asia after Squid Game.” During its fifth week, Disney+ usage in South Korea jumped 145%, hitting an all-time high of 196 million minutes. On December 15, 2023, Walt Disney Company Korea confirmed Moving was the year’s most-watched local original series on Disney+ in South Korea.
