"Laying Pipe" is the third episode of the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy and the 56th episode of the series. With Jax, Opie, Chibs and Tig locked up in County, Damon Pope demands the death of one Son, and Opie takes the choice away from Jax.

Background
A bribed guard lets Damon Pope meet Jax inside the jail. Pope takes half of the club's cartel money, wants Tig kept inside so he can deal with him, and demands one dead Son for the Niner and the police officer the club killed; the guards will set it up, and Jax has until the next shift change to pick a name. Jax tells Opie about John Teller's letters and that Clay killed Piney, and Opie demands to know why Jax stopped him from killing Clay. When the guards come back for a decision, Opie head-butts the guard sergeant and tells Jax "I got this". He is put in a room with a lead pipe and four inmates, fights back hard, and is beaten to death while Jax watches through the glass.
