Armageddon Riders
A vehicular combat game set in a zombie-infested city.
Armageddon Riders is a vehicular combat game developed by Targem Games. It first launched on PC through Steam in 2009 under the name Clutch, with a PlayStation 3 port following in 2012.
The story follows a protagonist who survives a disaster triggered by the Large Hadron Collider, which transforms everyone in the city into zombies. He returns to the abandoned city seeking a way to reverse the change.
Players race a vehicle against computer-controlled opponents across environments such as the city, harbour, and Large Hadron Collider areas.
The game received "mixed or average" reviews on Metacritic. Critics praised its graphics but often found the gameplay repetitive. Positive reviews came from PSFocus (82/100) and PlayStation Universe, which highlighted visual quality and genre appeal. XGN gave a mixed review, noting satisfying zombie-killing but calling the experience monotonous. Total PlayStation's Ryan Green said the game "doesn't offer anything intentionally challenging or cohesive" and "does a lot of things, but none well," while praising graphics. Eurogamer's Kristen Reed gave a negative review, describing an "uninspiring visual style and routine gameplay" and likening the experience to "shooting fish in a barrel."
The game was not available in Australia at launch, as it awaited classification from the Australian Classification Board.
