Reader's Guide

The novel follows the seven demigods of the Prophecy of Seven on their final adventure to defeat Gaea, while Nico di Angelo, Reyna and Coach Hedge carry the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood to prevent a war between the Roman and Greek camps. In Ithaca the demigods learn that Gaea's army plans to attack the Acropolis in Athens rather than Mount Olympus. Nike reveals that one of them is destined to die and will need the Physician's Cure; the seven gather its ingredients in Pylos, Sparta and Mykonos.

Reyna returns the Athena Parthenos, ending the war between the camps, while the demigods battle the giants on the Acropolis and kill them with the help of the gods. The giants' attack wounds Percy and Annabeth, whose blood wakes Gaea, and the seven confront her at Camp Half-Blood. Piper charmspeaks Gaea to sleep while Leo and Festus bombard her with fire, and Leo's supernova of fire and Octavian's onager shot atomize Gaea. Leo is believed dead, but Festus revives him with the Physician's Cure and he returns to Ogygia for Calypso.
