Key facts and history

Founder Eugen Beyer founded "Elektrotechnische Fabrik Eugen Beyer" in Berlin in 1924 to produce loudspeakers for film palaces.[2] After World War II destroyed the Berlin factory, the company relocated to Heilbronn in 1948.[3] The M 160 was inducted into the NAMM TECnology Hall of Fame in 2019.[4] In the late 1930s, Eugen Beyer created the DT 48, which was the first dynamic headphone model.[2]

The M 19, Beyerdynamic's initial studio-grade dynamic microphone, was introduced in 1937.[3] The M 160, a ribbon microphone with strong directionality, was created by Beyerdynamic in 1957.[5] Cosonic Intelligent Technologies purchased Beyerdynamic in June 2025, with the transaction valued at 122 million Euros.[6]

What the cited sources add

A Fidelity Magazine article notes that Eugen Beyer was born in Stockholm in 1903 and grew up in St. Petersburg.[7] The same article states that the DT48 was introduced in 1937 and produced continuously until 2012.[7] According to a FOH Front of House Magazine report, the M 19 microphone was accepted as the reporting microphone of the Reich Broadcasting Corporation.[6] The Fidelity Magazine article reports that the DT 770, DT 880, and DT 990 headphone models were created in the 1980s.[7]

An audioxpress article notes that the company's newest generation earphones and earbuds are manufactured in China.[8] The same interview indicated that following the acquisition, Beyerdynamic items would still be hand-assembled and manufactured within Germany.[9]
