Anker

Last updated

Anker is a consumer electronics company founded in 2011 by Steven Yang, who named it after the German word for ship anchor.[1]

Key facts and history

Steven Yang quit his job at Google in July 2011 to start Anker, and the company took 12 months to prototype its first laptop battery.[1] By the end of 2012, after shifting resources toward portable chargers, Anker went from selling 100 to 1,000 products per day.[1] Anker launched the eufy smart home brand in 2016 and the soundcore audio brand in 2018.[2][3] In 2023, Anker launched the Anker SOLIX sub-brand for residential and portable energy products.[4][5]

Anker's 3D printing venture, operating under the AnkerMake brand, was ended in 2025.[6]

What the cited sources add

A 2017 Verge article reported that a majority of Anker's sales come from cables and wall chargers.[1] The same article noted that Anker developed close relationships with suppliers in Asia, including Panasonic and anode supplier BTR.[1] A 2021 Verge interview stated that Anker had grown to a 3,000-person company operating globally.[7] The 2021 interview also revealed that Anker had 100 people dedicated to managing its Amazon marketplace.[7]

The same release noted that Anker SOLIX modular battery solutions are scalable from 5 kWh to 180 kWh.[5] A 2023 PR Newswire release describes the Anker SOLIX Solarbank E1600 as a balcony power storage system that uses LFP battery technology and is capable of 6,000 charging cycles.[5]
