Background
Writer Marv Wolfman and penciller Gene Colan created Blade, who first appeared in The Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973) as a supporting character. He soon became one of Marvel's leading supernatural heroes, working with the Nightstalkers, the Midnight Sons and the Avengers. He was born in Soho, London; when the vampire Deacon Frost attacked his mother during his birth, vampire enzymes passed to him, making him a dhampir.
