Oogway
The ancient tortoise who chose Po.
Grand Master Oogway is a wise, kind and ancient Galápagos tortoise and Master Shifu's mentor, voiced by Randall Duk Kim. In Kung Fu Panda (2008) he unexpectedly names Po the Dragon Warrior after Po lands in front of the Furious Five during the selection ceremony.
Lore & Background
Oogway foresees Tai Lung's escape, encourages Po to keep going when the others mock him, and before ascending to the Spirit Realm names Shifu his successor and makes him promise to believe in Po. Kung Fu Panda 3 reveals that Oogway and Kai were once brothers-in-arms: Kai carried the injured Oogway to a secret panda village, where the pandas taught Oogway to give chi. When Kai began taking chi from others for himself, Oogway banished him to the Spirit Realm. Kai later fights Oogway there and takes his chi, and Oogway warns him that someone is destined to stop him.
