A high pressure injection injury is an injury caused by the accidental or deliberate injection of substances such as oil, grease, diesel fuel, gasoline, solvents, water, liquified plastic, or air into the body under high pressure. These injuries most commonly occur from accidents with grease guns, paint sprayers, and pressure washers, as well as from working on diesel and gasoline engine fuel injection systems or pinhole leaks in pressurized hydraulic lines. Although the initial wound often appears minor, the unseen internal damage can be severe, and delay in surgical treatment frequently leads to amputation or death.
