Features

Avatars United was a social networking site focused entirely on in-game identities. Users could link their game avatars, allowing them to send messages, blog, discuss topics, and share photos and videos. They could also form groups and coordinate in-game events. Any mention of real life or a user’s actual identity was prohibited. Avatars were sorted by their game server, referred to as a “world,” and each world had its own page to monitor avatar activity. People could register as many avatars as they wanted from different games and worlds, picking one as their main avatar. This made it easy to stay connected with friends when moving to new games. To log in, users had to provide their real-life birth date, though it was unclear if that information would be made public.
