Quests

Players complete quests given by NPCs to gain experience, coins, and sometimes items such as armor, weapons, potions, or materials. Quest types include branch, scenario, within the day, and instance quests. Scenario quests unlock chapters that form the game's foundation and offer greater rewards than average quests. Several zones and encounters involve player versus player combat.

Gear and equipment

Armor and weapons are obtained as monster drops or purchased from other players. Each of the five classes has different abilities, so using appropriate equipment is important; a spellcaster is weakened by a blade, and a melee fighter by a staff. Soul Gear offers the most powerful stats for its level, and equipping multiple pieces grants additional bonuses such as more HP, MP, or attack power. Soul Gear can be upgraded to the next level via a purchased item, transferring most stats except blessing and soul insignias. It is obtained through instanced events: level 45 gear in Dragon Emperor, level 60 at Specter Island, level 75 at Giza Temple, level 90 at Lava Heights, level 100 in Pit of Reckoning, and level 115 in Titan's Trial from the Titan Update. Primal Gear provides soul gear-like properties with extra combat benefits like increased damage or defense. Additional upgrade systems include Fortification, Gem Embedding, Stardust and Starwords Combination, Gear Blessing, and Soul Insignia Charm. Armors can also be enhanced with glow effects.

Pet system

Pets are caught by fighting monsters, bought from the Cash Shop, or purchased from in-game merchants. They have five stats and can possess up to six skills, plus six exalted skills if the pet's fortification level exceeds 10. Pets can be melded into higher generations, up to Generation 3, and boosted to increase growth, which determines HP and MP gained from stats. The Guardians of Fate update introduced four types of pet gear.
