The birth of ice hockey in Ústí nad Labem dates to the end of the Second World War. In 1945 a group of enthusiasts, led by Jaroslav Kropáč, founded Sokol Ústí nad Labem in 1946. The club soon changed its name to LTC (1946–1948) and entered regional competitions. Over the next decade it was known as ZSJ Armaturka (1949–1959) and then TJ Chemička (1959–1963), until the chemical company ceased funding due to financial difficulties.

In 1966, under the leadership of chairman JUDr. Oldřich Rejna, the club was revived as HC Slovan Ústí nad Labem and won promotion to the second league. The team finished runners-up in the 1972–73 season and regularly placed in the top three over the next ten years. The 1979–80 season saw the team win the First National Hockey League championship but lose the promotion/relegation match against TJ Gottwaldov. After a crisis in the 1986–87 season, the team was relegated to the 2nd league in 1988, won the 2nd league in 1988–89, but failed to win promotion until 1993.

The 1993–94 season was the most successful in club history: Slovan finished 5th, eliminated HC Slezan Opava in the quarterfinals, and lost in the semifinals to HC Dadák Vsetín. Major financial issues after the 1997–98 season forced the club to sell its stake in the 1st League to KLH Chomutov. The team was renamed HC Slovan Ústečtí Lvi in 1999 and spent a decade climbing back from the bottom of the 2nd league, eventually reaching the Extraliga for the 2007–08 season but being relegated after one season.
